With all the options on how to entertain your children, most parents seem to settle for TV. Since their inception, TVs have been in children’s good books and the bad books of most parents. The argument in allowing kids to watch TV most of the time is that it is pretty harmless. At least they won’t get hurt or roughed up in any way. Which brings us to the big debate, TV has bad effects on children: agree or disagree? No one can tell for sure which side to support as the TV falls on both sides.
Learning Tool
Let’s face it, most of what our children know was learned from the shows or commercials they watched on TV. However, for this to be a positive trait, parents have to be present to be sure that their kids are on the right track. As a parent, you can never be too sure what kind of content is being fed to your children. Which is why you have to drop what you’re doing to ensure that your child is safe. TV can only be made out to be what you want it to be. If you give it too much power in your house, that’s just what it will be. Too powerful for your children to ignore. If you want it to be an effective learning tool, your kids will get just that.
Entertainment Scene
The last thing you’d want to see around your house is grumpy kids. If TV knows just how to make your kids have fun, let it. However, most of these shows and channels have to be filtered by you, the parent. Unless the kids are watching a kids’ channel all through, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Besides, what better way to destruct them while you are busy with the house chores? As long as the TV is tuned to a kid’s friendly channel, the TV is safe for your children to handle.
Controllable
TV is not the villain that we make it out to be most of the time. The best way to see this is the fact that technology has a hand in it. For instance, if you feel insecure about your child getting caught up in the wrong scenes, the remote is definitely within your reach. You can decide to lock some channels away safely, and your children will not gain access to them. Even if you were to plan a second honeymoon with your partner, you would have peace of mind. At least the children will be safe regarding the content fed to them on TV. It takes a keen parent to see to it that the lock feature is in place at all times.
Proper Balance
It would be unfair to your kids to keep this priceless device away from them. You should learn to help your children balance between play, homework, family time and of course, TV. Unless this is done, you will live in fear of your child becoming a couch potato or anything but responsible. Take your roles as a parent very seriously, and you will see it yielding fruits in due time.…
